How to Apply for a Civil Service Exam

Types of Exams

Most positions in the Insurance Department are filled through open competitive or continuous recruitment examinations. These exams are open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications as indicated on the exam announcements and there is non-refundable application processing fee. There are application deadlines for open competitive examinations. Applicants can file at any time for continuous recruitment exams.

Types of Tests

The tests for most positions with the Insurance Department are either written or evaluations of training and experience. The written tests usually consist of multiple choice questions and sometimes include essay questions. Written tests are generally held on Saturdays in public schools throughout the State. Training and experience evaluations rate the candidate’s education and work experience against the job requirements. Candidates submit applications to Civil Service and receive a score based on the information in their application.
